Allergene's goal is to improve the treatment of diseases that affect the immune system, ranging from allergies to AIDS. Our approach to treatment is modification of the immune system using its own mechanisms to provide a safe, effective, and nontoxic alternative to current treatments.
Our lead product, ALG889, is now in human clinical trials under FDA regulations. ALG889 has been shown to treat the immune defect in an animal model of AIDS. This defect results in an immune system that is overly active in producing allergic reactions and insufficiently active in fighting certain infections. A similar defect is observed in people with HIV infection, and if ALG889 can reverse that defect in people it may result in strengthening the immune system without the severe side effects seen with various chemical treatments of HIV.
