Job Description
Our client is one of the leading global pharmaceutical companies and a recognized industry leader with a rich pipeline of new products in development and a commitment to continuing to invest in research and development.
The Director of Global Laboratory Category Management reports to the Global Head, Strategic Sourcing , who reports directly to the CFO. There are currently 3 direct reports and approximately 8-10 indirect reports based globally. The Director will be responsible for determining the overall global strategy for laboratory sourcing and leading the implementation to drive value, cost savings and continued improvements to ensure the company’s effectiveness in maintaining state of the art laboratory facilities. The Director will establish the vision for the 5 year view of what can be done in the lab to 1) Give access to scientists for leading edge supplies and services. 2) To generate value, not just in cost savings, but also in improving responsiveness, quality, flexibility and relationships with key suppliers. The Director will take the leadership/consulting role in executing sourcing strategies. S(He) will be responsible for assessing, managing and mentoring the laboratory category management team in order to create a best in class department for category management. The Director will establish and standardize strategic sourcing procedures and business process improvements. The Director is responsible for negotiating and managing vendor agreements and implementing supplier value measurements to ensure suppliers are meeting requirements. (S)He will serve as the lead in all mediation and problem resolution as it relates to suppliers, time lines and contracts/agreement interpretation. In the first 3-6 months the Director will develop a comprehensive plan outlining areas for immediate improvement, listed by priority. Areas for improvement will be identified and measurement tools need to be put in place.
The successful candidate will be experienced in the technical components and with process improvement methodologies for strategic sourcing with 5+ years spent in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries or equivalent. (S)He will have experience in both developing the strategies for exceptional category management processes and subsequent active engagement in the implementation of the strategies. The successful candidate must be able to quickly establish credibility internally with a complex group of scientists. A deep understanding of lab consumables, reagents, supplies, apparatus, and capital equipment is a significant advantage as is knowledge of the lab supplier market. (S)He must have a strategic focus with the ability to analyze, formulate and implement procurement strategies to significantly reduce costs for a global business. (S)He should have excellent project management skills, with demonstrated successes at least at a regional level, and ideally at a global level. A Bachelor Degree is required with a strong preference in Business, Finance or Science, such as chemistry. A Masters Degree or MBA is preferred. The ideal candidate will be a highly strategic leader, who will roll up his/her sleeves to oversee the implementation of the initiatives. S(He) is a creative, out of the box thinker with exceptional organizational skills, who is always seeking ways to improve the processes and organization.
